Generations of Leadership
North Carolina's 8th Congressional District stretches from Salisbury to Fayetteville, and includes some of America's beautiful and most awesome scenes. From the Speedway in Concord, to the Uwharrie Mountains, to the Sandhills, the 8th District is truly a masterpiece.
Our district has known some of this nation's most fearless leaders. North Carolina's first female in Congress, Eliza Pratt represented the 8th District. Pratt, a native of Anson County, originally served as editor of the newspaper in Troy until heading to DC.
The 8th District was also represented by the late great Bill Hefner, a tireless advocate for military veterans. Today, the VA in Salisbury and an elementary school in Fayetteville rightfully bare Hefner's name and honor his legacy.
The heart of the 8th District, Montgomery County, has birthed many greats who we are proud of. Civil rights icon and former director of the NAACP Legal Fund, Julius Chambers, hailed from Mount Gilead. Also from Montgomery County is former Lieutenant Governor and President of Jordan Lumber Company, Bob Jordan.
Though we have seen many great leaders, today we suffer the stain of many regressive politicians working to roll back to progress of Pratt, Hefner, Chambers, Jordan and so many others. Republicans ascended to power in 2010, and have sold out working class North Carolinian's in order to keep their power. They have embarrassed us time and time again, and it's time we put a stop to their tomfoolery. Join us today, and join the fight.
